JBL 4412 Driver Replacement help?

The JBL's are getting along in years and now the left LF driver is coming apart. The styrofoam around the edge is disentigating.

I'm researching and having difficulty finding a retailer to buy replacement drivers from. I also read about some mod done to something inside the speakers, crossover or something dunno/?

All advice greatly appreciated
-Evan

usspeaker.com carries a fair amount of JBL. So does Parts Express. They may be able to order them even if they aren't listed on their websites. You may have to call and ask.

Any authorized jbl dealer should able to get those drivers. My local music store can get all their stuff, for instance, even though they only carry a few JBL models.

You may also want to look into reconing, which could save you some money. You may be able to get both woofers reconed for half the price (or less) of replacing them.

Actually, like many companies out there, just because you are a JBL dealer that does nopt mean that you have access to all things JBL. You could start on Ebay as well. There are always advertised drivers for the older JBL speakers on there. They may use a different driver number now than they did back when your speaker was made, so you may want to order a pair of them

True enough- I should have said full-line JBL dealer, some places are even though they don't carry the full line in-house. It's worth asking. I also would get two, but to replace them both at the same time, so they sound the same.

That's why I mentioned reconing both as an option. They both would be reconditioned, and hopefully sound similar, for less dough, most likely. JBL drivers ain't cheap.

BTW-datr808- a good reconer will be able to just replace the surround (the foam around the edges), without doing a full recone. You can get kits to do it yourself, if you have the nerve.
