My room is 14' wide and about 35' long. I had 6 2' x 4' panels of 703 and originally had them as 2 2'x4' bass traps and 2 2'x4' 2'' absorbers. Yesterday I changed them to be 2'x7' bass traps in my front 2 corners of the room. I also covered the whole front wall in 2'' foam. the side walls have some 3'' foam at the mixing reflection points. I am considering adding 2 more 2'x7' bass traps on the side walls for my rfz.

I am noticing a weird increase in the low end on the front wall that is covered in foam. I have read that it is good to deaden the front wall of a control room. I am thinking about going back and removing at lot of it. Is it ok to cover the front wall, or is it making my room too dry? I am asking this because I am new to the "treated" room and I don't know if what I am hearing is better than before or if the foam is sucking out too much high freq. The hihats and guitars sound great, but the low end seems to be a little boosted.

Hard to say - but in a room that size, it shouldn't be a problem at all - you're still considerably underabsorbed.

My suspiscion is that it's more the full floor to ceiling coverage in the front from the bass absorbers that you're hearing and you're just not used to it.

You may want to go over to John Sayers forum and ask some questions. I am no expert, but I believe it's the back wall you really want to deaden. Also, foam mainly removes high freqs, effectively boosting low freqs.

yea i think it is good to put bass absorbers on the back wall, some choose diffusion.

I guess what they say is true. Once you buy some sound treatment u end up buying more and more. I think i am going to keep my front wall covered, but i am going to add 2 more bass traps. I guess I'm buying mineral wool for the next panels, 703 cost me too much. I still dont understand why there is a huge price gap betwen the two.

If you buy MW, make sure its 3 or 4 pounds per c.f. - I got a great deal on 8pcf MW, only to find out it was too dense for absorbtion.

You sure about this? Gik panels are made with 8pcf mineral wool and they get great test results in the bass freq. range. I agree maybe not ideal for broadband absorbers, but for bass traps, they should shine.

All I know is that I can't wait untill I get some extra bass absorbtion down here. My control room has more absorbtion that most control rooms, but that is becasue I am also using it for vocals. Hopefully my new set of panels will come in by Friday. I'll probably be bulding my frames this week.
