Tascam 2488 problem

My finalized CD products are not loud enough. How can I correct this? Do I need to add EQ or Dynamics to my Master or what?

a friend told me a big tool tioo use is the DYNAMICS. Turn up the output gain before going to PREMASTER.

DYNAMICS section- select a compressor which will make it louder.

play around with the settings...too.

It's difficult to get homemade CDs as loud as the ones you get in the stores, because they compress the bejezzus out of them. Get about $10,000 worth of compression equipment, and a 10-year or more experienced engineer, and you'll have it. Otherwise, compress the dynamics out of your mix, then run it through something like Audacity to boost it even more. Just remember if you boost digital too much, it distorts horribly.

Its a RAMI tune done on 2488...with numerous styles of mixing goin down.
One of the absolute best threads I've checked out...on that subject.
some of 'em are so well done, it's hard to imagine.

I'm on my 2nd listen-set, probably a few more to go. I have to take breaks as there's so many different mixes and styles.

maybe you should ask one those mixing posters how they "pumped up the volume"???

I don't see how you could possibly get a cd out of a 2488 with enough volume. With the 2488 and the 788 before it, I always mix to the computer and tweak things from there. I use Sound Forge but there are many great software programs.

How you get volume out of you mix is relative to what you put in it. In other words, how was it recorded? What are the compression and dynamic factors that are already there? If there's a fair amount of compression, peak normalization may be all that's necessary with a few adjustments to volume spikes, and thus keep more dynamics in 'the master'. Or you may go with RMS normalization or in Sound Forge's case, a form of Wave Hammer. It depends on the music and desired result. All bring volume up to commercial cd levels.
