MR-8 Problem - any ideas?

I am a reasonbly experienced MR-8 user. I have just plugged my guitar in to both inputs and armed tracks 1 and 2. 2 comes out but track 1 does not. I have played with the input levels and still nothing. I armed tracks 3 and 4. 4 comes out but three does not. I armed tracks 5/6 - 6 comes out, 5 does not and same on tracks 7 and 8. I tried the balanced input with a mike, still nothing. I have changed leads on all combinations. I have a feeling it is just broken. Any ideas or is it straight to the shop? It is also out of warranty wouldn't ya know!

digitcallous is on a distinguished road
I thought you HAVE to used tracks 5/6 or 7/8 for 2 track simultaneous recording. I have a habit of doing it this way so I don't even remember if that's what I have to do.

My suggestions are to check:

- input trim knob to make sure you are allowing the proper input levels on each channel
- slider switch is up (if you are using 5/6 or 7/8 obviously there is only 1 slider)
- play something and look at the LCD display to see if you see the volume bars moving on the channels you are trying to record to

No you don't have to use those. I frequently use tracks 1 and 2 for stereo guitars.

Yep, I have tried all your suggestions. Even using tracks 5 and 6, I see the level bars move on track 6 but not track 5.

I am positive now it is fried in some way.

If you select tracks 1 and 2 but plug into Input A doesn't that record to tracks that are odd, eg 1,3,5 or 7 of your selected tracks, and if you plug into Input B doesn't that record onto tracks 2,4,6 or 8 of your selected tracks.

I'm just shooting wildly here trying to help!!??

Check through pages 29-34 of your Manual!!

Aha............After reading through the manual it is possible the "Input A" could be faulty because that is the input that controls the odd numbered tracks!!

Try to record onto just one track, in particular an odd numbered track and use Input A only....just to check that you can at least record to your odd numbered tracks in mono. If nothing happens just using Input A when you try to record to just a mono track, I would suggest your Input A is dodgy!

Once again....Just trying to help!!!

D'oh!! I have discovered what it was and I am feeling rather silly! Cheers Gortdude, you got me thinking and I tried what you said to no avail and then I saw what the problem was!!. I had a headphone plug plugged into the right stereo output instead of the right headphone jack. I just didn't see it as there were no headphones plugged !! Duh......It is alright now and I am a happy camper once more!
