Question

Here's the deal. A friend of mind has given me most of an older (70's maybe 80's) clear ludwig set, and I'd like to get as much of it up and working again in the best shape I can. My main concern is the part on the snare that has a lever that pulls up to tighten the snare. The origional is totally broken, and I have one that was taken off a crappy metal snare. There is about a quarter of an inch different between the span of the screw holes on the snare, and the piece of hardware in question. Should I just look for a new piece of hardware that will fit, or should I take a leep of faith and drill? Help. Also, I've seen drummaker.com listed on here. I'm looking for replacement hardware. Can you think of any other places, or give opinions on that one?

Disclaimer: I've never made any drums myself.
From what I've heard the size and placement of holes alter the sound, so I wouldn't drill in a drum. But what do I know? Nothing!

Ludwig still makes drums, right? Have you talked to them? They might have replacement parts.

I've ordered many replacement parts from Ludwig through a local music store. Better to get the exact replacement.
The set at the site below was originally a melodic tom configuration (single heads) but I ordered the hoops and castings from Ludwig.
