Pre-De-esser?

I noticed my piece of crap Behringer pre-amp had this, and now so does my Focusrite. There are stereo outs and then there are "Pre de-esser" outs. Why would they go out of their way to add this instead of just allowing someone to by-pass the de-esser (which is also available)? I'm sure there's a good reason that I'm not aware of. Thanx.
