Aberdonian will become famous soon enough
2 condensers to record one vocal

Most people think you get a better sound using 2 mics on acoustic guitar. Does it make sense to record one singer using 2 mics (either to one track or two) example, a mic 12'' away and other 3 ft. or whatever away. Does it act as a natural reverb/delay?

I'm very new at this. Thanks for any help.

better. no. different yes. Sometimes i use three mics on vocals because i want three different sounds to choose from. Not that i'll use all three, but options are great.

I don't think that it's decidedly better to use multiple mics, especially if you're not familiar with phasing problems. But experiment with different mics and setups and find which you think sounds the best to you.

But yes, using a distance mic and a close mic creates a neat ambience (depending on your room's sound).

well actually,

You wanna hear something cool?

You can use more than one mic on a vocal. Take one personal choice of microphone for your main vocal and then use 2 identical mics in an X/Y pattern (cardiod, omni...you decide) for the filler.

Now, here's the kicker. How would you position that? Think about it, the sound not only comes out of the mouth, but also out of the chest/diaphram area of the body. So if you take that X/Y configuration and position them at about the height of the chest, you can capture some of that rumble that helps add a little more life to the entire thing.

After a meeting I had today, it completely threw out any notion I had of "standards" in mic use and mic positioning. Basically, your imagination and your ear is your only guide.

Of course, you just have to use your ears on this one to prevent any phase issues (watch out for that nasty flutterish/flangerish effect). Bruce Swedien did that on J Lo's most recent project. As to the end result....I have yet to find out.

ears are generally pretty good things to guage a sound with along with mwahha a good imagination

I did the XY thing on a vocal once but I've never pointed it towards the chest...................& it's something my father likes is low end on a voice. Sounds contradictory but I swear he sings at like 5hz

nice one Lee

I'll bet that was not the only thing pointed at JLo's chest.
