Event TR-8 vs. Yorkville YSM1P

this is my FINAL decision for upgrading my monitors. i have the rp5's...but lacks in bass response and power.

Which monitor above is better?

Having never heard the TR8's I did not vote.

I can't help but wonder about those who did....

I've heard alot of good reviews about event stuff. If i had the money that's what i would have got but i only had enough for the behringer truths. They sound good too though.

If your looking for better bass like you say, you are doing the right thing by switching to a bigger monitor. 8's are a good improvement over 5's.

Cool

One year, 4 out of 6 grammy nominee's for best produced record were mixed on event's. I have heard both and I can understand why. I think the event stuff is MUCH better quality than yorkville. My vote is the Event's.

Do I feel that this alone will solve your problem?

NO

I think what you would benefit yourself from doing is adding a subwoofer in your control room. I used to think the idea was insane, but then I started hearing about all these big producers talking about mixing with a sub and I tried it. My mixes got a million times better since I started using a sub. I have moniters with speakers of all sizes and even my 8" KRK V8's don't have near enough bass response to mix properly. These days almost every time your music is played it will be played through a subwoofer. Think about it, how many system's do you have without subs? (cars, home, etc.) then think about how many systems your friends have without subs. Sub's are very commonplace these days, and your mix should be prepared for this and prepared to sound good on those sub's. You can't mix a song that will sound good on a sub without using a sub. I have a presonus central station which is set up very well for this type of mixing. I can bring the sub in and out bye pressing one little button. I will do most of my mixing with the sub on and then always listen to it on the small moniters with the sub off in mono. (you have to make sure it is going to sound good in EVERY environment)

Hope this helps!

Hmm..i can't figure out why the YSM1P's have such a huge cabinet while the LF woofer is only 6.5"....compared to the TR-8's that have an 8" woofer.

I agree, one button on the sub would be handy.

i used to have a passive setup with a speaker selector and it was great like that, press a button different set of speakers or sub or numerous. I like my actives just fine too....

hmm? DIY ? sub-switch???

I'd assume the larger cab is to improve the bass response and get as much out of the 6.5 inch driver as possible.

I have the yorkies with the sub. The 6.5" woofer just doesn't cut it for low end, much better with the sub. My over all opinion is that they are middy and a little fatiguing on the ears. I wish I had shopped around more before buying them. They were a big step up from what I was using, though. I can't comment on the Events.

i totalyl agree with grinder. i own a pair of ysm1s and i feel that they lack clairty especially in the bottom end. my roomate has a pair of mackie 824s and they kill my yorkvilles for clarity
