reverse delay??

how would one go about creating that reverse delay found on so many old recordings (when the levee breaks, etc) digitally? I know how they did it on analog systems...but digitally how would you do it? Some sort of signal processor?

The only way I know how to accomplish this is to follow the analog process.
1) reverse the track
2) apply delay
3) reverse the track again

I don't know of a vst that will allow you to do this real-time...in fact, based on the vst architecture, I don't think it's possible.

This also can be used for reverb or other trailing effects.

Are you talking about say a snare that is reversed with delay on that or just plain and simple reverse delay?

The reverb from Sonar 5 has reverse reverb which might do what you are looking for.

You can also use it as a vst plug.
Perfect space i think it is.

Good reverb.

The boss dd-5 and dd-6 have the reverse effect, but it also plays it forward normal along with it. Analogman has a mod to get rid of the normal and leave just the reverse effect.

That 'reverse reverb' would still play after the original. It just plays the reverb backwards (like in poltergiest when the little girl says 'Mommy')

If you want the delay or reverb to happen before the sound that's being delayed, you have to flip it backwards, add effect, flip it back.

You know, it should be possible with a look ahead approach. But I don't know of any VSTs that do it. At least we don't have to reverse the reels anymore. David and Farview have it right, just make sure you apply the effect destructively in step 2. Make a safety copy of the unaffected wave first.
