how long to keep monitors on?

Perhaps a stupid question, but...

How long do you guys think it is safe to keep your Event monitors (mine are PS series) on (i.e. powered up, not necessarily with a signal). 6 hours? 12? a full day? Mine sometimes get incredibly warm only after a short time; is this true for everyone else also?

Thanks

All power equipment have what might be called a duty cycle -how long can the design run, at various loads. Your car can top out ar 130 but not for very long. A cheap saw can cut 4x4's, until they shut down. Live sound amps vs 'home stereo...
That said, I'd dam well not want to have to worry about a piece of studio gear. They get warm fast? Do they keep getting hotter?

They get warm fast, but then the rate seems to decrease then plateau. My monitors are warm even after fiften minutes of use and then get even warmer an hour. After this hour, they stay the same more or less. it's strange.

I'd think that is a good sign if it's not to hot to touch. I suppose you'll want to know for sure. If you can't find out here make some calls if need be.

some say that the warm up-cool down is hardest on electronics.. for this reason i leave my home stereo amp on 24/7 (going for 6 years or so now)... my monitors (though not the PS series) i leave on for a couple days easy... i try not to power them up/down frequently... ie.. if i plan on doing a lot of mixing this week,, ill leave them on the whole time.. if not ill keep them off... lately ive been only able to do audio over the weekends.. so i keep them on thursday night through sunday night and off the rest of the time...
if you use this approach make sure to have a good surge filter and even UPS ($10 walmart brand doesnt qualify for this)... leaving them on 24/7 leaves them open to spikes/surges/drops.. which can kill them faster...

this is just what i do.. not saying its right or not...
the only reason i turn mine off is to save power (damn hippy!!) .. and obviously yours are pushing some wattage (with the heat and all)

I also have two sets of the PS series (6's and 20/20's) and I have left mine on for two weeks at a time, I dont think it will hurt much, BUT remember all electronics do have a thermal life span of the circuitry, Ive had my first set of Events(the PS 6's) since 2000 and they still work just fine.
