signal to firepod via patch bay?
So I'm starting my mobile unit. I'm gonna rackmount my firepod (and rackmount my second one when I get it). But in visualizing how to set everything up for doing live recordings I had a question.
Since a live recording in which I use line outs from each board channel will probably not require using the mic preamps is it wise to run the line inputs from the firepod into a patch bay, and then patch the live board outs into the firepod via the patchbay? I thought about doing this just to reduce clutter and having to run cables around the side of my rackcase. anyone else do this? Good idea or bad idea? |

Great idea... but I'd suggest mounting the bay on the back of the rack if you don't plan on patching alot of equipment into the signal path...
It'll keep the front a bit less cluttered, no snake hanging in the front, but still give you access if you want to direct patch anything. |

Probably a good idea. My only advice would be to make sure your patchbay jacks are good and clean as the connections on them can get ratty from lack of use (bad, crackly signal connection: run a jack though each patchbay connection regularly to keep the contact points crisp) There is some stuff out there to spray in each jacks to do this but I can't remember what it was.
