Zoom Mrs-1608 problem/defect

Dear friends

I am very new to home recording, and recently bought the Zoom Mrs-1608. I have been getting to grips with it, and everything seems to make sense and to be working fine with one exception. All the insert effects give me horrendous background noise (hiss), which swells as the note played dies away. In some cases, the noise is accompanied by a definite ticking sound. I am inclined to think this is a fault with the machine, and that I should return it. But I wanted to ask advice from some wiser heads before doing so.

I have already tried the following: adjusting all the parameters I can think of, including all the various volume controls during recording; using different instruments/microphones (in case the fault lies with my old guitar); returning the machine to its factory settings and starting again. But the problem persists. It is only present with insert effects (when BYPASS is pressed all is well and the send/receve effects are apparently okay), and the ticking I mentioned does not seem to be related to the rhythm unit of the machine, or the depth/rate of any particular effect.

Is the machine faulty? Or am I missing something obvious? I would be glad of any advice before beginning the inevitable battle with the retailer to get the machine replaced.

Thank you.

Paul (PWN)

Welcome to the BBS Paul.

I used to own one of those Zoom boxes a few years ago. I can't think of anything 'normal' that would cause the problems you describe, it sounds like a fault with the unit to me.
