Pick your foot back up.
You either aren't hitting it hard enough to plant the beater, or you are leaving your foot down too long. Your foot controls the beater, you just need to control your foot.

I used to burry the beater for a long time. It was one of the hardest habits to break! I got to a point where I knew I liked my bass drum to have a nice 'boom' at impact and noticed I was burrying the beater. It was killing the sound, especially when I used hard beaters and impact pads. "Boom-kkkrkkrkk". I knew all my hero's didn't play that way and I had to re-learn how to play the kick! It was very hard to do! Learn good foot control early!!!

where as control is always and important thing to work one i will say that in some cases burying the beater is a good thing and if thats so in your case then try hitting harder and giving it some wieght from the leg as well as tuning the batter looser

I like to play in my bare feet. It seems like I get a better feel of the pedal that way. Recording ,live, practice, I just like it. Anyway......

The most common reason for the beater to bounce off the head, is that the resonant head has no hole in it. Cut a 5" circular hole in the resonant head, (the one you're not hitting) And the problem is solved.
Evans also makes pre-cutted front heads, which are really cool! Now you can bury your beater! |

I used to have that problem, and still do at times. All I can say is practice. Also, I agree about playing without shoes for more control, but has anyone besides me tried playing iron cobras barefoot? They'll cut you up man. I play in socks...

The beaters on my double pedals always come back and hit me in the shin. I usually finish a drum session in with sweat and blood. Getting really annoying...
