Digital Tape?

Would this work the same as an ADAT digital tape recorder? Mitsubishi I thought they made cars?

I'd not touch that thing. That quote (above) is a warning sign. I also wonder if 1" digital tape is still available??

I personally have no idea. But from the concept - I'd say it's a waste of a great enclosure ... waste of metal that is

Quote from the listing…

“It has the warmth of analog but the dynamic range of digital.”

“This was and still is the best multitrack machine available on the planet.”

WHAT A LIAR! (I DIDN’T SWEAR BUT IM THINKING IT)

Too bad eBay can’t/won’t remove fraudulent listings like this.

eBay is likely the biggest single source of recording mythology, which then gets passed around the web until we have to deal with it on these forums.

Yeah, Mitsubishi has been around a long time and made a lot of things including TV, stereo receivers, turn tables, tape recorders, pro audio, etc, and the planes that attacked Pearl Harbor… Are you in?

I kinda had the same reaction as what was said here. It's about twenty minutes from me and was up for auction before for some outrageous price. Sounds fishy and if records like an adat it's not going to have the same warmth as analog.

That is an old DASH machine. It was the second generation digital recorder. It is a big step up from an ADAT or DA88, but I'm sure it's 16 bit (really, really good 16 bit) and will not keep up (sonically) with a modern 24 bit DAW with great converters.

The only real reason to buy one of these would be to set yourself up as the only studio in the area that can play back DASH tapes. You could charge a mint to transfer old stuff to Protools, assuming anyone wanted you to.

man you can say anything you want in an auction. you can say that the tape machine will give you a blow job if you want. the thing is, when the buyer finds out it doesn't, it opens up the possibility of a return. I have used this to my advantage before. I bought a tape machine that said, and I quote, "this tape machine will make your dreams come true". well...it didn't, and I returned it. when I called paypal about it they looked up the auction and sure enough..agreed that this sort of language basically amounted to a satisfaction guarantee...I could have returned it for any reason at all.

Careful! It's not DASH... It's ProDigi format and won't play Sony's DASH tapes.

So, you would be the only studio in the area that says you can transfer DASH to Protools, but really can't… this could be a cool add in the Yellow Pages and it may get one noticed.

“We will transfer your 24 or 48-track DASH recordings from our ProDigi 32-track to Protools.”

People will say, “Man, they are gods!”

20 year ago when these were new I would have given my right arm for one or a Sony, but I didn’t know any better then. These beasts were just something I thought I wanted (like a Delorean from the same era.) but couldn’t possibly afford in a million years. Turns out time was on my side.

Stryper recorded To Hell WIth The Devil on one of those in 1986 or so.

I'd treat it with caution, early digital probably isn't for the fainthearted.

Our family car is a 2006 Galant; that I can recommend (great deal on run-out too) . Just trying to persuade work to upgrade me from a Corolla to the new model Outlander. Nice

I don’t know, but I’ve seen Tascam MSR-16s go for nearly as much as he wants for the Mitsubishi. Ah, but then the MSR-16 was introduced 4 years after the X-850. So that must be it… it’s newer.

Gosh, my particular TSR-8 was manufactured 8 years after the X-850 was introduced. But you know me... I have to have all the latest technology.

Now, I have few questions then:
1. How the hell did you end up in VBI?
2. Does UPS deliver there?

OOOPS!!!!! You're right, my mistake.

Digital never holds it's resale value. I have 7 Tascam DA-88, three of which need new heads. They aren't worth fixing. ($700 to fix, worth $150 on Ebay in perfect condition)

Depreciation is the pits. I have a lot of vintage stuff around that I don’t really need, but hate to give away. I need room more than I need stuff right now so I’ve put a few things on eBay. Some things do well, but more often people just don’t have the background to realize what they’re looking at. Most of my stuff is like-new and well maintained.

Having bought most of it new back in the day it really stings to let things go for peanuts.

It wasn’t easy… I was demagnetizing the rotating head on a VCR with this baby, when suddenly there was a power surge as the grid tried to compensate for the 1.21 Gigawatts. Everything went black… when I came to, here I was.

Now, it looks like you're doing all right there ..better than most of us. I guess the only problem you may have there is that your TV is permanently frozen in black (or blue). What kind of life with no TV? (ask this Gentlemen - they'll tell you ).
But I've figured, since UPS is Hot and up in Full Gear over ther , so when you reach the point of neurosis or depression ( because you miss Tony so much ) you can simply Ship yourself Back ... (just be sure to pack well and all that )

meanwhile, here's Tony for You,

What the hell are we talking about anyway? I forgot.

I’m trying to remember without looking at the original post, so don’t tell me… that would be cheating.

I'll just keep smiling and hope it all eventually works out.

..imho, this conversation perfectly represents a discussion about MITSUBISHI recording gear
speaking of brands, gear and chocolates,... What else besides chocolates YAMAHA corp. does NOT make? (or have it gotten chocolates covered as well, and one just needs to know where to look for it )

"fishy business"

here's interesting post quote:
Quote:
As an update on my Mitsubishi Tuna post… I of course knew all along that Mitsubishi was a HUGE company (who hasn’t seen a construction vehicle or utility truck with “Mitsubishi Fuso” written on it?)… but the Tuna threw me for a loop. Of course, upon closer inspection of the can, it turns out that it’s actually made by “Chicken of the Sea,” and just branded by Mitsubishi (or “Three Diamonds,” which is (as I’ve been told) what Mitusbishi means). This of course is a result of after WWII when the US broke up Mitsubishi into many smaller companies. Later on they all kind of got back together, sharing the same logo & whatnot… but still, it’s funny to see the logo on Tuna, don’t you think? :-)
...found here .
