Korg Triton Hum noise

I am getting a constant hum/buzz sound from the keyboard. It is kind of faint, but if I have many layers from the keyboard it adds up.

I have a Korg Triton hooked up to an Mbox 2. I am running 2 cables out of the 1/4" main jacks of the korg and into inputs 1 and 2 on the Mbox. I guess I could filter out the noise in post production, but I want to keep the integrity of the sound.

How can I get rid of this hum?

Matt

Make sure the Triton and Mbox/computer are plugged into the same wall outlet

I am still getting the hum noise, but maybe it has something to do with the electricity. I get the noise even if the keyboard is not turned on. However, when I unplug the keyboard, then there is no noise at all.

Any ideas?

calbes are usually the problem. If you're using an unbalanced cord that'll do it too. And if it's from the power supply, try plugging it into a different outlet, it could be a grounding problem.

I'm with the other's on this for now...a long hard look at your cables. Are you using both the Left and Right or just a single MONO? IF using both, pull one at a time (find out if the noise is coming from both channels).

Try moving/rerouting the cables while listening to the noise...see if it changes when you move them around. Make sure the cables aren't running parallel and/or in close proximity to power cables and wall warts (the Triton has a big ol' nasty one). It's possible the cables are bad but even if they're not, unbalanced cables are prone to picking up electrical noises.

I fixed it by using converting the 3 prong into a 2 prong adapter. I think called a ground lift. Anyway, thanks for the help. Never would have thought the ground would be the problem.

I would probably use D.I. Boxes instead of those adapter plugs. Might spend aliittle more money, but it's a little more safer

What makes this unsafe? I have a surge protector, although it isn't super expensive. What would the DI box do?

Will a DI provide ground? Cause I think that's what he gained by using the ground lift adapter.

D.I. box does have a ground lift.

Also, just a caution, those adapters do get rid of ground loop problems, but you lose the earthing, so an electrical fault could fry your board and leave you with a live metal case! ...... be careful....

Cheers,
