RNC vs. RNLA experience???
What's the difference?
I've bought a few cheap compressors, and none of them have really hit EXACTLY what I'm looking for... I have a feeling the sound I'm after is only acheived through remote cut-off tube limiting, which is thousands and thousands of dollars out of my budget range. What IS in my budget range is the RNC, and if I'm feeling dangerous, the RNLA... Question is, does anyone have experience with BOTH of these boxes (I know everyone loves the RNC already) and can be specific about their tonal and performance differences?? Like the RNC is transparent, and the RNLA is "gooey"? Huh? Which would be better for stereo bus compression? Do they work (equally) for harsh limiting for drums or vocals? What exactly does the "log/lin" or whatever option on the RNLA sound like? Log/lin vs. Super Nice for bus compression? I know the RNC is probably more versitile, but seeing as how this will probably be my last rack purchase, forever, I'd like to know what the benefits of the RNLA might be, so I don't kick myself later. . |

I own both. They sound pretty different - both are good. The "Log Rel" button on the RNLA allows more natural transients in the limited signal, and I prefer its sound in that mode. There were several threads recently where the two were discussed.

Well I have both but I prefer the RNC in supernice mode to tape. Why? It's pretty transparent. I use it very lightly just enough to keep from clipping the converters. Then I do more aggressive compression with the UAD-1 Plugins.

Oh, and I forgot about high-end loss, whcih is always a pain with compressors.
RNC is suppossed to be good in that regard, what about the RNLA? Thanks. . |
