Big Business Move
What up family. I might be doing a big business move in the coming months. I might move to Atlanta! Would have to move the whole studio...
My manager is loacated in Atlanta and he works for a big label. Over here in the Bay Area, it's hard to make strong revenue. We are just getting by over here. And we know that we would never be able to sell a production for more then $400! And studio rates could never go more than $25 an hour. We kind of have out grown this area. And the rent and electric bills are real high over here. For a normal business rent it's about $3000 a month! And electric bills can get to $400 a month! That's like $4000 a month just for a place. Not counting paying employees. It's too much... It's just to high of an overhead... Our manager always chats it up with big artists and it's hard for him to talk about production with the producers 3000 miles away. So, for everyone in Atlanta how's the producer scene?

I say go for it while you are motivated. It seems tho that your area is about to take off with that hyphy movement.Make the move but always keep in contact with where you are from.Good Luck but with the skills you have you just need an opportunity.

I think Beats can bring that to the ATL though because hyphy is starting to come up and it could be a big thing....he brings that to the South and who knows what'll happen next.

Thanks all. Ya, if I do move, I'll still rep the Bay. This is just a smart business move. People do it all the time if they see opportunity. LA, NY, Atlanta... Once I get it good, I'll always go back to the Bay.
Oh ya, what's the rent like out there? People say I could rent a whole house for the amount it would cost to rent 1 room in SF... They just bulit condos near my spot and one went for $900,000! That's not a house!

Sup mane? Good to hear you may be coming out this way. As far as the production scene, MJ can prob inform you better than I can. I'm ranging from $150-$600 per beat right now and $20 per hour @ my studio. (I'm in college right now and have to drive 3 hrs to get to Atl on weekends.) As far as rent... It all depends on the area. Downtown/Buckhead would be the most expensive obviously, but other areas may be reasonable. Holla @ me if you make that move, we may can help each other somehow...

Yo, that's real. I have some homies out that way in SF. They make good money (70k + a year), but so much of it goes to their condo and everything else (plus some of them shopaholics major). You'll most definitely see a change in cost of living in most Southern areas. If you can afford SF nicely then ATL won't be hard on you at all. If I'm, not mistaken, you'll still make about the same as you do now down there right? If that's the case, you'll be just fine. Fiev. |

Keep us updated beat!
I might just see you down there too. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and most of their cribs are in subdivisions and very affordable if you're coming from a high market city. I can sell my house up here in Boston and buy a 4-5 bedroom with all the extras damn near straight cash. But again, keep us updated..............

Should be easy for you Wax. I think this will be a smart move. You and I both know that clientele won't only consist of ATL cats so now you do have more profit going towards getting everything top notch.

keep us updated..on this...
but remeber the price or rent withh be higher as you get closer to the city..sames goes for homes there... right ATL is the spot to be..the hopes of Dreams..the place to be heard..so right out the box you will (your manager should be) findin you clientel now before you ever get out there...you want to be in business running.. not hopin clients will come to you after you get there..you want them ready to bless any and every track you have ready.. I say you need to visit.. to see where ant studios are in what area..and try to find a good area for you and your team to set up shop..and be ready to grind.. everyone in ATL wants to be the next big star out of the A.. so do some research..and continue to network until you get there... stay up and keep us informed

Should be dope. ATL has a lot of artists now but they got those shitty crunk productions. You can go by and show them how hip hop is made.

Even INSIDE a club, it's bad. If you wanna listen to hip hop in the club, that's fine, that's where it came from but club hip hop should be HIP HOP - not techno that's considered rap since the vocalist is black.
What I consider a club banger is a joint like Big Pimpin', Lean Back, Dirt off Ya Shoulder, Roll Out, Move B*tch. NOT a piece of steaming shit like Laffy Taffy.

yeah..that club music for up north..not down south.. even tho you will hear it in the south at the clubs..its the "Laffy Taffy's" of the world that packes the dancefloors in the clubs in the school.. ever region has its own style of hip hop that packs the floors...and it you want it to be hot in the club you need to be already known or have a simple hot knockin track that get people up out of the seats and off the wall and on the floor..period the south love to dance... a rule of thumb..(if your old enough)..if you can get into a strip club..pay attention to what makes the dancers..dance harder..when the dj spins the records...try your new hit in the club to see what kind of response you will get from the dancing..then you will know if you have a hit...lol...JD(soso def) does this alot ..lol

What up FAM. Been a minute. Been on the grind once again.
Anyway. As asked, I'm from the Frisco Bay Area... These talks with major labels take a long time, so I've still been making our own moves. Studio recording, live mobile recording, selling beats and getting on big releases at least and investing. ![]()

REAL hip hop club bangers from the South are by cats like Mannie Fresh and the like - that's where it's at. I also like joints like Nolia Clap and that H-Town shit. Big Pimpin' and Move Bitch were with Southern cats though.
