Question

Hi all...

I had a question that maybe someone on the forum could help me with... I have a Fostex R8, and I cant help but notice the serial port and the other approx 20 pin interface on the top of the unit... Being a tinkerer and an over-half-electrical-engineer (went to school for 2 1/2 years for it, taking time off), the ports totally enthrall me... All I can think is "Boy! The things I could do with serial control of my R8!!" What that will be, I dont know. But I want to learn about it... heh...

My question comes down to these:

1) Has anyone ever seen any equipment that actually uses the serial port on the unit? I know the other 20 pin plug is for ganging recorders together...

2) Has anyone ever seen documentation on the interface, and the protocol? (Or more generally, how to interface the R8 or similar unit to a computer?)

3) Any other info on accomplishing this?

Thank you in advance -- I appreciate any info!

Brad
