Hows MY first drum mix, not msblaze!!!

Basically my drum mics came through the post today and this is my first recording of my drumkit i have done (so its not great.) I havnt run this through a compressor or noise gate or anything else i just added some reverb in soundforge afterwards. the mics are below. All are shure by the way.
3 toms= PG56 on each one
Snare= SM57 (fake asian copy)
Bass drum= PG52
No overheads.
My mic stands havnt arrived yet so i couldnt use the overheads and the snare mic is balanced on a music stand.
all those mics were just run through a Behringer Eurotrack UB***(cant remember) and out of the main output of the mixer into the line in on a really old, crappy computer. and then soundforge.
Im just wondering what i could improve on next time. i like the punchy bass and the snare.
BTW. the file has been compressed, decompressed, compressed, changed format etc.. lots of times so the quality isnt great. i am very tired so the drumming is TERRIBLE. and i think the beggining doesnt really have much life in it. it sounds really comporessed. and thats about it.

The snare is obviously the loudest drum, toms 2nd. Snare doesn't sound tooo bad. I cannot hear any punch in the kick. What is your bass drum setup and mic placement? Are you using any EQ?

You are going to need those overhead mics. What mics will you be using for OH?

That sounded pretty damn good for no over heads. I like the snare sound and I love the way your toms sound. The only thing is as Philgood said, they bass drum has no oomph to it.

the bass drum mic set up was about 6 inches away from the beater (inside the bass drum through a hole in the front) and just facing at the beater face on, not tilted or anything. Yer i liked the way the snare sounded but it was a bit load. i did set the EQ on my mixer so it was higher on the highs and lows and lower on the mids, Like a smile on a face.. The overheads i will be using Shure PG81 ( i bought the 6 mic set ) I quite like the fact that the cymbals arent overpoweringly load and i would only want them a tiny bit loader so i was thinking i would close mic the cymbals instead of using the overheads for the whole kit cause i thought that might reduce the amount of panning i did on my mixer because of the floor tom leaking into the left overhead for example.
The bass drum deffinatly needs more of a kick to it though so today i raised the Highs on it and also raised the lows but it diddnt seem to work.. it just came out slightly loader than before. i know the mic isnt the greatest but i cant get a better one. i have a sm58 and when my mic stands come i was going to place that on the beater side of the bass drum and point it towards the beaters.

Try this: Move the bass drum mic away from the batter head. Try just about 1-2 inches inside the hole. It might allow more of the sound of the whole drum to develop before reaching the mic. The PG52 is not known as a good mic, but you should be able to get better results than what you have.

Are you using any dampening or beater pads on the kick? What kind of beaters? Sounds like you want a metal drum sound, right?

nice clean punchy sound with everything but the bass drum which , as everyone else said - needs more balls.

yer i have pads on the beater side so it doesnt break, the actuall bass drum skin is 2 ply and has a dampener around the outside so i havnt stuffed the bass drum with cloth or anything.

Might consider lowering the input gain of the snare track; I hear a slight distortion on the attack. The kick could also use some work. Try the suggestions above.

I'm no expert of micing drums, but the way you have your toms panned, I believe one of your left toms is panned almost farther than the snare, which IMHO sounds a little awkward.

Anyway, I like the sound (and the drumming), just do what everyone else is saying and be sure to post another clip when you get overheads
