Sonar 4 VST nOOb

I once bought Sonar 4 PE, but never used it becuase i got a sweet deal on some Pro Tools gear. I have since sold the PT stuff, and am now working with the Sonar, but since i have NEVER screwed with DXi or VST plugins, i have no idea how to use them. I want to be able to create chunes like i do with fruity loops, lush synths, tight drums and the like. I am running my Oxygen 8 into a midiman 2x2. Now how do I set up and use virtual instruments.

And before you go the old "read the manual" route, i tried that, and then my dog ate it after i spilled coffee on it.

lol

VSTs are pretty simple in Sonar CW products. If you look at the console view, there is an effect box. Right click and choose your effect and it'll pop up. You can tweak and change in real time. Audio effects that is. The softsynth stuff may be a different story, I don't use that crap.

OK, i got that far, thank you. When I used Pro Tools, each VST had a unique and neat interface. Same here? Or is it all going to be that Macintosh-y bland look. Im picky, i know, but the clients like to see 'em. As for the soft synths, Im used to Fruity Loops where you can assign knob functions to the controller, and everything is real time. Kinda lost on the soft synth tip.

While we're at it. Any chance my old Free Bomb Factory Plug Ins will work with Sonar? Any reccomendations for good (prefer free, kinda broke after buying the Firepod) soft synths or VST's?

1. each plugin's GUI is it's own...not the generic mac thing.
2. you can now interface FruityLoops (the new version anyways) with Sonar, just like Reason interfaces with PT.
3. to insert a soft synth/VST instrument, just go to Insert-->DXI/Soft Synth? something like that...I'm not in front of my DAW at the moment..

umm..can't remember what else you asked...you should've stayed with Sonar, even though you got a sweet deal on PT (LE i'm assuming). LE sucks a monkey's uncle (don't bash me for my opinion).
