Metal song we are working on

It is still in the conceptual stage, but I think this recording captures the overall "vibe" the finished song will have. Our desired sound is "Southern Metal" along the lines of Black Label Society, Down and Corrosion of Conformity.

What I am most concerned about, is whether or not that first lead in the very beginning takes away from the heaviness of the song.



systmovadown: The drums are accoustic with the exception of the kick, which has a triggered kick layered over the acoustic recording. I think the "bigness" of the toms can be attributed to: The way they were Eq'd, nice thick reverb, and new skins being hit nice and hard with some emphasis. Compression was used only on the kick and the snare. That's it as far as the processing...
