I'm come clean with it.. lol

I wanna find out the best way to utilize our Triton Studio, in a Digi 002 based studio...

I was researching the mLan i/o card for it as a way to connect.. To be honest, I have no experience with Tritons, or high end keys/sound modules, in general.. I just don't want such an expensive and great device to go to waste in our ProTools environment...

If ya just wanna post some links-for-dummies.. I'm all ears... I just need to learn...

Thanks

MartinHines is on a distinguished road
Do NOT buy the EXB-mLAN option for the Triton Studio. It was designed to work with the (now) old mLANa protocol, and therefore only works with other mLANa devices, running on Mac OS9 ONLY. Yamaha created the mLANb protocol, but this protocol is not backwards compatible (mLANa and mLANb devices can't work together). Therefore the EXB-mLAN would be pratically useless.

In looking at the Digi 002 ( http://www.digidesign.com/products/digi002/ ), you have a number of choices of how to connect the audio outputs of the Triton Studio into the 002.

By default, all Triton programs, Combis, and Sequences have all of their audio routed to 2 audio outputs, the (MAIN) L&R, analog outputs. The Triton Studio also has an optical S/PDIF output that automatically mirrors the (MAIN) analog outputs.

In addtion, you can optionally route audio out the (INDIVIDUAL) 1-4 analog outputs, giving you the option to route audio out of the Triton Studio via 6 audio channels. If you buy the optional EXB-DI (ADAT) board, you can have those same 6 audio outputs in ADAT digital format.

In looking at the Digi 002, it definitely has an ADAT in and out, so you could connect the Triton Studio's ADAT output to the ADAT in of the 002. By default you would have 2 digital channels, but can use up to 4 more (the Triton Studio doesn't support the full 8 channels in the ADAT standard).

I see the Digi 002 has S/PDIF digital ins, but they are Coaxial (RCA) S/PDIF, which is different than the Triton Studio's Toslink (Optical) S/DIF. You MIGHT (I don't know) be able to use the 002's Optical IN as S/DIF instead of ADAT IF the 002 has been designed to support this (some audio interfaces support this flexibility, some don't).

Of course, there is also the "easy as pie" method of analog 1/4" connections. You would only need 2 unless you wanted to use the Triton Studio's Individual Audio Outputs as well. I assume most people make things simple and connect via the 2 (MAIN) analog outputs.
