Cobalt River Cymbals?

I'm sure some of you Ebay-addicts have seen these so called "#1" Cobalt River crashes and splashes.
Anyone have any experience with them? I'm not a cheapie musician, yet I don't mind buying "cheap" equipment that works and sound alright. I know Zildjain A Customs will almost always beat cheaper cymbals. But are any of these C.R. crashes worth the mulah?

I've had a hankerin' for a 14" crash, and I'd like to try one of these Cobalt River models. I just want someone to warn me. I don't want to waste 50 bucks and end up with a shit-disk of metal.

Wuhan has been taking their "European" style cymbals and OEMing them to other companies for branding. I bought a low-line set of Ufip hi-hats that look and sound EXACTLY like a set of Wuhans I bought earlier. (Will be putting them both up on eBay - cheap!)

I would say these look just like Wuhan splashes.

I sold my Sabian AA 10" splash I love my Wuhan S series splash so much. They (along with the crashes too) have a slight trashy undertone to them that I love. my Sabian was untouched in almost 2 years before I unloaded it

ive never tried them, but the colbalt river cymbals look like pieces of crap.

Wuhan is a good company, if it interests you, go to musiciansfriend.com and they have a 16" and 18" Wuhan S series along with an 18" china for 100 bucks, you cant beat that price. Ive never tried the crashes, but iv heard that they have a somewhat trashy sound to them. The china is a pretty decent china that has a lot of trash to it.

IMO the best thing you can get for your money.

Agreed. I use Wuhans 14" China, and also have the 18"! Not bad, for the money, not bad at all!

yea, i almost bought those 2 along with a 10" splash a year or 2 ago, but didnt, and sometimes consider that 16/18 crash + 18 china pack, haha its liek you have to pay more for the stands to hold them than the cymbals themselves

I'm just gonna say that these Cobalts do look identical to Wuhans and I bought some Wuhan stuff a year ago and besides the small China's the were horrible. The cymbals had a really weird sounding tone after the initial attack. Instead of a nice crash sound its more like the noise Jim Carrey made in dumb and dumber when he was making the most annoying sound in the world.

Well, if they are wuhans I'm not too worried. I've got 3 10" Wuhan splashes and 2 12" splashes that sound great! Kind of papery with alot of white noise. Also have a 16" S series crash that has a dry jazz quality.

I just had someone in the studio the other day with a 10" wuhan, I stopped him and told him to use my sabian instead, it also made the same digitally errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr noise the crashes made, not something I'd ever want in a recording.

The first splash hit at the beginning of this song is a Wuhan 10" splash! (right at the end of the little hihat run, before the big hit coming into the 1st verse)

I chose it out of 8 splashes I had for that section. It beat the sound of 3 Zildjians and a Ufip.

Oh, and the highest pitched crash is the Wuhan S series 16" and all the China hits are Wuhan 18".

I have 3 splashes that I paid $10 each and can use any of them for specific situations. One is quite thin and papery sounding. (PERFECT for recording) A medium for louder recording, and a thick one for high volume live situations. It's nice cause they have a neat slightly trashy sound and I don't mind laying onto them! If they break, so what?? I must say they are very durable. I certain situations I much prefer them over Zildjians. I got my hands on a thin 12" china that just CRANKS out the white noise for a great effect.

It's about 2/3 the way through this level check we were doing. You'll know it when you hear it.

http://www.monkeyworksinc.com/samples/testwsubkick.mp3

The only Wuhan Euro cymbals I have not been impressed with at all are the hats. VERY loud!!!! VERY trashy!! Almost to the point of 'out of control'. The crashes are 'eh', I could care less. But the splashes I have found to be an interesting addition to the kit.

He was talking about Wuhan Chinas. It's true, when stuck, after the initial attack there is a really washy "errrrrrrrrrr" sound heard when miked closley. I make sure my china is far from the OH's so I don't get that funky sound.

You know some of that is amplified if the overhead mic cable (yes, cable) touches the cymbal stand!
