Confused...

Ok so i got Sonar 5 producer ed...but i dont know how to edit audio waveforms! Whenever i double click on a track, the loop mode comes, which allows me to add the markers for creating loops. but i want to trim the audio track..as in cut and paste different parts..how can i do this?

You need to split the track, click in the area where you want to trim it, go to edit and choose "split track" it will cut the track at that section, then choose the next spot you want to take out or move and split it again and delete or move it as you please. Hope this helps.

Actuall, it helped me....

I had the same thing happen yesterday, and some how, I accidently was able to cut the end. I was just reading about this, but hadn't quite figured it out yet.

But isnt there an easier way to do this? I also use cubase..and trimming tracks there is a breeze. how come its not the same as sonar?

Trimming and splitting are a bit different. To trim the end of a track, you merely "grab" the end with the mouse and pull it back. Try it, you will see.

To split a track: RIGHT click on the spot you want to split and you will see the word "split" in the choices. After you split a track, you can grab either end to move it.

One thing I do: I usually fade out a split. I highlight the very end, go to process/audio and fade. It takes any pop out. Likewise, I fade in a track the same way. No pops.

If you put the mouse on the end ( or beginning) of a track, a rectangle with an arrow will show up. You just left-click and slide the excess stuff off.

Yup. At the end you right-click and do a split, then rightclick on the stuff you want gone and click delete. Goodbye, nasty noises!

You have heard my weirdo classical stuff with its 10 zillion tracks: I gotta work FAST. I got the splittin/trimming thing GOIN ON When I do all that violin stuff, I press record 5 seconds before I come in and I am PRACTICING the licks!! I stop about a half-second before I enter. I am coughing, whistling, farting , playing with my cats, watching tv the WHOLE time. I just make 100s of splits and edit that crap out!

But if you split and drag the noise out, (like a pop of a guitar string) doesnt it leave a space of silence? Its also hard to find that exact spot? Or I'm being lazy.

Well, hopefully you have such little boise that it wont matter.

No, its not wise to split and take out one note. You split when you have a few seconds of no playing. As for finding it, there are a lot of ways but you should be able to SEE a good spot. There is a scrub tool if needed, I never use it. Play around with it for 30 minutes and you will get the hang.
