MR-8 Screen problems

I was just given a faulty MR-8, the problem being, the screen isn't displaying anything.
the machine powers up fine, apart from not being able to see anything.

is there a way round this problem, the machine is just out of warranty.
I was hoping I may be able to control the unit via midi and use a template in Cakewalk. is this feasable?

Panic Over

Well having opened the machine myself, I found the probelem to be a loose connector on the LCD. a problem that fostex UK wanted £200 GBP to look at.
