Reducing 24 bit to 16 bit?

Anyone know how to reduce the recording from 24bit/96000? I recently recorded a song using the 24/96 bit and now when I do playback and mix, I get a lot of clips an pops. Not only that, my cpu meter goes into the red and sometimes I get dropout's. Anyone know how I could reduce the recording from 24 to 16?

In Sonar 5 you go to Options/Global/Audio and switch there. By instructions you should be able to switch at any time from one to another.

Another possibility will be to ease the workload on your processor and bounce some tracks, increase your buffer size, increase latency - or all 3 This way you can retain the high resolution of your recording for the mixing stage, then dither it down to 16/44.1 for exporting and burning to a CD.

However, you should note that that will not automatically change the bit depth of your tracks, just how they're interpreted by Sonar. Any existing tracks in the higher bit depth will need to be manually converted to the lower depth.
At least that is as best I recall.

First, I have a question. Are you doing the playback and mixing in Sonar? Do you have a 24/96 capable sound card?

Sometimes there is a sample rate conflict that can make things sound like absolute ass.

Also, do you have anything running in the background? Anti-virus software?

Wireless network? Anything running in the background can put a big strain on things regardless of what version you may be using.

Experiment. Try disabling any effects plugins that you may have running and see if it still does it.
