Sonar 5 recording oddity
Whenever I am recording in Sonar 5, the program reports that the incoming signals are clipping like hell. Examine this screenshot:
http://nash.wanzafran.com/sonar5rec.jpg It's very misleading. The signals are NOT clipping. After I stop the recording, then Sonar starts to refresh the waves in all the tracks and they are in fact totally okay, really nice levels with no clipping. It didn't use to do this before. The recorded signal is absolutely fine. It only does this when it's recording. I find it annoying because I usually monitor the meters on screen in Sonar. Now I have to monitor using a separate app (the MOTU CueMix console), or turn my head to look at the hardware meters on the MOTU 828 MKII. Both of those methods disrupt my workflow slightly. Has this happened to anyone? What's going on? It's getting on my nerves... |

I also get this occassionally and do not know how to fix it.
This has happened with an Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 and a RME FireFace800. I only use ASIO drivers, so maybe there is an issue with the v5 implementation -- v4.xx never did this for me. When it happens, I normally refer to the mixer from the FireFace which is always correct. Ciao, Q.

I've got a question about your screen shot there...what's up with the big blue rectrangular section in the toolbar? Is that some sort of menu option you've got turned on? Looks a little bit like my Mackie MCU LED display.

I know what is wrong ... you need to select all the tracks .... Ctrl and A ...then put the mouse pointer over any one of them and press ALT and down arrow at the same time ...this will fix your probably ....
i hope lol |

punkin - it's a utility for the Behringer BCF2000 control surface.
If you look at the taskbar in my screenshot, you'll see the app. I merely positioned the app such that it looks like it's part of Sonar. It certainly fooled a few people who saw it ("what version of Sonar are you using!?" "is that a custom mod or something?") =) lurgan liar - Nope. :/ |

What I have found is something even more perplexing, although I managed to solve it. Sometimes my ASIO drivers would give out completely, and not kick in again until I restarted Sonar 5. I'd get this weird distorted audio during any popup window alerts, and whenever hitting play/stop. Then I noticed that there was this clip indicator on a certain track each time it happened, hitting 18.0 db. Looking at the track itself, it wasn't clipping, but I had a reverb plugin on it, which must have been buggered or something because there's no way that plugin was feeding an extra 20 db to that channel.. yet, when I disabled the reverb, the "clipping" would dissappear and the drivers stopped flaking out on me.

I haven't had this again since installing v5.2...
Fingers crossed. Q.
