Recording with external eq's & compressers?

when you guys record, do you have the channel inserts connecting to equalizers and a compressor? I just found out today that when I recorded directly into my computer with the use of my mixer sub outs, that I got a very good sound with the eq and compress. The only problem that I have is that I only have four sub outs and I only have one rack of compression that has four channels and one eq with two channels. How do you guys route things to your computer?

i always track clean, unless something requires it. for example, i was tracking a singer the other day who at times would sing really quiet and at other real loud so i had to use a little bit of compression to make sure it didn't clip. otherwise, i always track totally clean..no EQ, no comp, no anything.
