average cost...

I want to set up a home recording studio in a spare bedroom. This would be for voiceovers and commercial production. How much would this cost? Need to know how much money to ask the bank for. Thanks.

I'd say it's a little more complicated than that. I mean, we could assume everything and list the options, but who's got the next week to spend typing? Could you provide a little more information? I assume this would be PC based? Define "commercial production"? Would that include recording live instruments? Midi? The list goes on.

No musical instruments. I know little about it all. My husband is a disc jockey and production director at a radio station and wants to have his own studio for voiceovers and to produce commercials and do some imaging. I am trying to find out from you guys what the average cost would be. He has been doing this for 20 yrs.

So are you saying he needs to do video edit as well? Would he need a video editing program like adobe premiere, Sony Vegas, or Nuendo? Are you looking for budget gear like in the $500 range or are you willing to spend up to say $5000? Does he need high quality recordings or can he get by with sub-par quality? But if he is going to be making commercials I assume he will be needing more than just a mic and an audio interface and a cheap recording program. The first question is, how much do you want to spend.

Also a couple of mics to look at are the Electro Voice RE20 or Sennheiser MD421. Very very popular in VO work.

Sorry, didn't notice Peak...here's you a windows set up for under $200.

Unless I missed something, I never saw a mention of needing video work, just audio voiceovers.

That was in response to an earlier post in this thread telling this person to buy Nuendo for what they are wanting to do.
