"Classic Albums" DVD Series
I think this DVD series is very cool. For those who haven't seen one of these, they select a famous record and have the original artists, producers & engineers walk the viewer through the recording process. So far I've seen the Floyd, U2, Nirvana, Marley, & Steely Dan. I've actually learned a few good engineering ideas from them. Anyone else into these productions?

I have the Dark Side one and yeah, it's great..would love to see more. Seeing David Gilmour tap out On the Run on that EMS synth kills me. It'll never happen, but I'd kill to see something on Tangerine Dream's Rubyicon or Phaedra.

I have the Deep Purple, Metallica, and Judas Priest.
Deep Purple is great. Lots of tech stuff and pictures. The band is entertaining. There is a lot of soloing channels so you can hear the different parts. This is the best one I have. Metallica is OK, most of the footage has been seen on 'Year and a half in the life of...' There are a couple stories that are cool, but not much technical stuff. Judas Priest is almost worthless. There are no pictures from the time and they are mostly talking about how they wrote the music. There is very little technical stuff. There must have been 10 minutes worth of everyone individually telling you that KK's guitar rig was set up in the room that John Lennon played the white piano in the the 'Imagine' video. I had to watch it twice before I noticed that someone said that they used a mic up close and a 'U87 or something' (their words) 20 feet away. Also spent a lot of time talking about how they banged drawers of silverware on the ground to get the metal sound on Metal Gods. They even interview the current drummer (who must have been 10 at the time this album came out) and he just tells you how important this album is.

I've got the one on the making of the Joshua Tree. It's pretty cool. I would like to see some of the other ones.
