monitor speakers

I want to make my room a little better, in a cheap way.
it is a very open room with bare walls behind the monitors, hardwood floor, sliding glass door to outside, and about 10 feet wall to wall in front of the speakers. any good suggesstions?

I'm not sure whether it's possible to do any worthwhile acoustic treatment to rooms on the cheap unless you perhaps do it in installments, one thing at a time if you know what I mean.

Are you familiar with a chap called Ethan Winer?

Does your room reproduce any echoes or reflection off the walls? Cause those would be your enemy.
