cubase sx3 emu 1212 and presonas tube preamp

I am really confused on how to record by plugging my mic in...I am a newb. I have everything configured correctly for doing midi, but have yet to figure out how to hear any live instruments I plug into the comp. I bought a starter pre am today and now I am just trying to figure out how to set everything up.

can anyone help, my cubase manual said to use the drivers for my hardware...which I did...then it says live sound will also need to be configured correctly there...I really am unsure if I got it set up right, I ain't hearing anyhthing.

I have cubase "ignite" and "Fire" and I get confused with some of the jargon, the manual to the emu 1212 says see the manual on the disc, when I load the disc, I don't see a manual anywhere. I bought it refurbished and wonder if I even got it.
