Which Software to use?
Hello all,
I am just starting out and getting ready to play with some tracking. I will mainly be recording acoustic guitar, maybe some electric guitar, and my vocals. I will use loops for drums and maybe buy a cheap bass later for bass recording. Anyways, my point is, I dont think I will ever need to record more than 1 thing at a time. With that being said, which of the following programs should I consider using? (I have messed with Acid 4 a few times and know how to record in it but thats about the extent of it, so might as well say I have used none of these at all) These I have already: Sound Forge 6.0 Acid Pro 3.0 Acid Pro 4.0 Vegas 4.0 Adobe Audition Cool Edit Pro 2.1 For my needs/purposes does anyone have a recommendation? Do I stick with using Acid 4 or is there a better choice above? Thanks in advance |

vegas is a good multitracking software. I'd recommend that.

even though I wont be multi-tracking, is it still better to use than the others listed?

yea, I guess I am still messing with acid 4 for now...
I need to learn how to use the darn thing. I know how to record a track and then another, etc. But I dont know a lot of the basics like for example, if I record a guitar track that is 2 verses and a chorus and then instead of continuing to play through the whole song, I just copy and paste what I just played to equall: verse - verse - chorus - verse - verse - chorus I tried messing with it but couldn't figure it out. Guess I will have to break down and actuall read the HELP section! ![]()

hey there guys....
i'm hoping someone can take a moment to help me out. i've been recording tracks into Acid 3 from my Tascam 488mkII and i've really enjoyed using Acid to edit my tracks i recorded on tape. however, i'd like to try recording direct to Acid with just using the Tascam as a mixer. i want to be able to record a guitar, then record a vocal track while listening to the guitar track (in my headphones) and not having the guitar record onto the vocal track so that they are separate. i can't figure out how to do this and it's driving me crazy. if anyone could tell how to do this, i'd be very, very grateful. thank you |

Probably not the best place to ask this question since not many people come into this forum. I would try one of the other popular ones (look to see how many is viewing each one)
But I posted a similar series of questions a couple of years ago and I think the answer came to me in this thread here, however I am using a small behringer mixer and not a tascam. Hope that helps

For tracking a stereo pair into your PC it ABSOLUTELY makes NO difference which of those SW choices you use. The only variable involved there is your signal chain into the PC. Once you are working with the recorded files then it is a matter of what you want to accomplish along those line that will determine what SW to choose. |

Cool, that makes sense Drstawl.
Well when I get the track recorded into my PC, I want to be able to throw some cool effects on certain tracks (which I have been messing with in Acid 4), and I want to be able to manipulate the tracks (which I am totally clueless on as of now). meaning, being able to cut, copy and paste certain parts of my vocal track so that the chorus 1 and 2 are the same one instead of having to sing it 2x and be slightly different. (same with guitar) I cant even do simple tasks like that and need to learn how in the near future. Some hjave told me adobe audition is easier doing things like that, where others have said Vegas or Cool Edit Pro. Just trying to see what some of my better options are.

I don't do much mutlitracking, but I used to use on old version of Vegas Audio for just that purpose. The interface is very simple and intuitve, just like Acid. Now that I have Acid 6 there's no need for Vegas. Last edited by barefoot; 04-11-2006 at 21:55.. |
