Well, someone has to start a thread!!!
Yo, Tyler here.
I want this CUBASE forum section to get started. It seems like everyone else is afraid to write something. And yes, i know there is a special CUBASE forum at www.cubase.net. But, i figured we could also share some info back and forth here. I've just upgraded from my little Tascam MkII analog 4-track to CUBASE SE3 on my computer.Welcom to the digital age, baby!!! This is the 90's!!! no...wait; oh yeah, i'm still living in the past. (with my giant cell-phone the size of a #*&%!ing mailbox). Anyways, i'm still messing around with it and trying different things. Ive only done like 2 or 3 songs, but the difference in quality is amazing! You have soooo many more opions for recording and mixing. Best of all, i dont have to wory about running out of tracks and have to bounce things! And the effects you can add on there are amzing too. I can just record everything dry then go back and add effects/reverb, ect. so i have a much better signal and less noise. So, lets get this rolling. Start writing people! This section exists for a reason.haha -tYLeR |

Oh, yeah. that was a joke by the way. But seriously now. I wanted to know if anybody has any tips on the pitch-shifting thing. It seems like that function just makes things sound.....fake. Robotic almost. But then again, ive only tried it on vocals (probably not used for that purpose i guess. But cool, nonetheless if you want a robotic sound. Especially if you make the chord one octive below and over the root note.
Anyone know of a good vocal harmonizer? I want something to kindof make chords with my voice so i dont have to go back and double everything in different keys you know? Plus, its hard to sing in a different key over the original anyways. Oh, and i suck at singing. haha. Anyways, i wanted to know if anybody had a suggestion of something that wouldnt cost too much $ seeing as how i'm a starving musician (seriously, i had to eat my room-mate's leg last night.) thanx for your help. -tYLeR |

Yeah it sucks that the folks at cubase.net make you register your dongle number.
That was a joke. |

I actually like the pitch shift function. I sometimes record acoustic guitar chords and pitch shift the track one octave up - It comes out sounding almost like a mandolin, and adds nice texture to the mix (i.e. when played along with the original acoustic chords track). Also, I've been recently experimenting with pitch shifting down one octave to get a passable acoustic bass sound. It sounds pretty good. Now I'm experimenting with electric guitar in the same regard.

You really cannot get that crazy with pitch shifting since its designed for small changes. For big time changes, Anteres Autotune is worth looking at
