Easiest way to get a DOT COM

I have been looking through lots of review of hosting websites and most of them seem pretty expensive at 7$ a month or more.

I was wondering, from your experience, what is the easiest way of getting a decent and cheap dot com website, just for hosting a very simple personnal page.

Thanks

Try www.doteasy.com

I have a couple friends who host sites through them and I don't think they've ever had any problems.

I use www.1and1.com and think it's great. It was recommended by someone here. 2 .com's for $5/month, with front page extensions and tons of extras. I think they have a 1 .com package for $3/month. Excellent customer service as well.

Yep,
I'll second 1and1. Very solid service, tons of features. Cheap

I've got to disagree about 1&1. Yes, they're ok if you don't have to deal with customer service at all. But if you've got any problems, it can get to be a problem. And moving your name away from them can get difficult. Just a word of caution based on what's happened to two people I know.

I use savinghosting.com. You can get a decent package for $12 a year if you dont host mp3s on your site (outsource that to soundclick or lightningmp3).

If you did want to, I think they have a package thats like $3 per month.

Im a geek so I host my own.. I dont know if thats an option for you.. It costs me something like 12.00 a year for the domain name... and then I just leave my computer on serving the website... Its probably a heafty chunk of my electricity bill though.

there's a lot of places to check out from this thread:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...?s=&forumid=11
I got a few names from here, but for the moment, i'm staying with yahoo, untill i figure out what else i'm going to implement on my page. if i need more php functions, i'll probably switch to osiris. but there are some neg reviews of 1and1 in there somewhere.

If you don't mind hosting pop-ups on your site, http://www.20megsfree.com/ will give you 20 Megs free (thus the name) to use.

You will still need to pay for a URL or use theirs free (yourname.20megsfree.com)
