Is there any such thing as "Best"?
When you are talking about recording gear: Does any piece EVER outshine absolutely EVERYTHING else SO much that absolutely EVERYONE who is exposed to it agrees that it is the BEST?
Does the word "BEST" even belong in the recording gear vocabulary?

I have a strong feeling that most people on here are going to say no, because it all has to do with the situation... or something else.
Well I have not tried every single piece of recording equipment in the world, so I guess the honest answer from me and other people who share that from me should be I have no fucking clue?! Ben

How about:

I look at a lot of gear. Some things seem sort of ho hum if not nothing more than bad. Many perform competently. A few pieces astound me. Some pieces taken by themselves might be good or even great. For some reason when you bring certain pieces together it's like someone got out the magic wand. However, if someone else gets his hands on the same gear, then he'll get a different result.

For any individual person, there is indeed a best - of just about anything. For people "en masse" there is no best, or at least it is situational and subjective.

 This is the best mic. Regardless of opinion or plain ol'logic Note the modern design.. Its a sleek black plastic(lighter, easier on mic stands) 1/8 inch jack, very practical Not to mention the chord is attached! No more, "hey anyone got an extra mic chord about?" on off switch..(Hey is this on?) Plus, I think it might fall under best mic under 3 Dollars.
