Green to ADAT
I'm a little slow in the ADAT department. I'm looking to add 4, maybe 8 channels and there are a number of mic pre packages out there that look tempting. The one's that keep grabbing my attention have ADAT I/O's which in concept I understand but what escapes me is how does one make the connection between the micpre/ADAT device to the computer? I imagine there's a seperate interface that needs to be added. Yes/No?
After I consider the cost of adding four more mic pres and an additional Delta card, as I mentioned, some of these ADAT units look pretty tasty. Something like the Octo pre is what I had in mind. Thanks...just doin' a little techno mind expansion.

I believe you'd simply need a PCI card for your computer with ADAT Lightpipe in. RME is supposed to be good from what I understand. You'll also need to sync your multiple digital devices together, but they should all have the capability to do this.

The RME Digi96 PAD 8 is a good little card, mine cost about AUD800. As well as having ADAT in/out, it's got 2-track analouge, SPDIF and AES/EBU. Plus the addon boards are handy.

I don't know what your budget is or your plans for the future and expansion, but the Hammerfall HDSP 9652 has pretty much everything you're going to need for awhile.

So...that's the sort of item it takes to get the digitized audio into the PC huh? I gather most people arent taking it direct to the PC but rather to some other type of recording device?

some people track to like an Alesis HD24 then dump them in to PC via fireport or in some cases re-track using the HD24 as the source and something like a MOTU 2408 or the RME 96/52 for the PC interface. At least I think the latter is done that way.
