AT-4050, ADK Hamburg, or MXL v67?

Hey, I'm new to the boards and new to recording music. I need to know what is the best microphone to use on my vox. I generally like to make my voice smooth and high. Lot's of airy high falsetta kind of stuff.

Help me out! Do you recomend the at-4050, ADK Hamburg, or v67?

The at-4050 is frikken expensive for me, the Hamburg and v67 is more affordable, but don't let that mess with your jugdement, if the 4050 is better.

Sorry for being so blunt, I'm a noob to this, and have no voice-clip to share. But if I like that highness and smoothness, what's the best do you think?

Cheers!

woah, I've had the same kind of question a little bit ago. To be honest, I still don't know. I've heard great things about the Hamburg and Vienna, and that they'd be good for higher vocals, but then I JUST heard that the at4050 was great on femails......So don't know! I'm a load of help, huh?

ADK Vienna would be a good first reach.

crap, I've got a high voice too, and got the hamburg! I've heard there isn't much a difference between the two anyways.

They're all good...get em all!

No kidding though - I like having variety. I started with a C1, added a 4040, then an NTK, now an M179 and I sold the C1...

The 4050 I've used is spectacular, and I hear everyone rave about the the ADK and MXL options you've listed. But they're not in the same category, so it's hard to compare. The V67 is a very low budget mic, the Hamburg moves up slightly, and then there's a large jump to a 'pro' multipattern...They aren't in the same ballparks really.

If you have the budget for it, get the 4050 and I bet you won't be disappointed.

I dont like high airy sound.. I got a Hamburg, and I'm fairly disapointed... It sounds high and airy. Its smooth however.. I wanted a warm mic, thought thats what I was getting =[ My sm58 allmost sounds better on my voice. (for what im looking for)

If you want a smooth and non-airy sound, check out the AT4047.

Yeah. I have a pair of 4050s and while I like them a lot I wouldn't call them 'smooth'. Accurate and a little brilliant would be my description. Great for some vocals and acoustic guitar. (my $.02)

mjau will become famous soon enough
The v67 works really well (in my experience) on baritone voices. For the money, it's a superb mic. I think the Hamburg is a wonderful mic, and while I haven't used a Vienna, I have heard others compare them to c414's somewhat - and my 414B-ULS would be a good fit for higher pitched vocalists. The 4050 is a good all around mic, but if you're not doing a lot of things that'd require omni or figure 8, in that price range I'd probably instead look for the at4047 that someone else mentioned. It's a cool, character mic that'd work well on voice and a lot of other stuff.
If it was me (big if), I'd probably go for the Hamburg or Vienna.

I don't know if they're still available, but I just got a refurbished AT4050 from www.8thstreet.com and everyone was right. It's completely legitimate, and a great deal. (Normally $600, got it for $350)

check the rode ntk out; great vocal mic for the price. can't go wrong with the 4050 though if you can afford it, works well on guitar cabs as well
