any small Battery ---> Phantom Power adapter?

I want to convert any condensor mic into wireless by using AKG WMS40 Snap On unit. However, I also need to power the condenser mic. So, I am looking for a fairly small unit that connects to the mic and uses battery to provide the 48v phantom power.

Any suggestion?

Most of the ones I have seen are 4-5 inches long, and only give 12V. That's fine, as long as you use mics that don't need true 48V.

I know the Marshall MXL603S microphone has a zener diode which immediately regulates your 48V phantom power to 12V for the preamp section. The 12V is passed to a DC converter which ramps the capsule polarization voltage back up to over 48V.

I'm sure a lot of mics are built this way. So although the mic is getting 48V, you could power it with anything from 12+V to 50V without any change in performance.

Now... You just have to figure out if the mic you want to use is built this way.

Elsewise, you might end up linking up five 9V batteries through a couple of 6.81k resistors...

Here's a cheap supply from Harvey, if you have minimal electronic skills, and size would be a little larger than five 9V batteries in whatever configuration.

Thanks for the suggestions. Seems like it'll turn out to be a mess if I try to make my own unit with 5 batteries. The Sennheiser unit seems like a good one, but SO EXPENSIVE!
