Lightbulb Tascam 564

The Tascam 564 does have a digital OUT... but no digital IN. Too bad Tascam doesn't make an 8-track version with phantom power and digital I/O's.

I have a Tascam 564. This 4-track, in my opinion, is the best thing since sliced bread. It completely blows away cassette based 4-tracks... and it has 4 XLR inputs... unlike two on the MD8.

Talking

Yo SEVEN of BRENT:

Hey, man, four tracks means that you have to bounce; and, when you bounce, you lose control of tweaking each individual track; thus, you bounce, say, bass and chords down to one track; you put on the FX; however, the FX AFFECTS BOTH BASS AND CHORDS. And, that may not work in many instances, not to mention bouncing strings and vibes and voice to one track which will give you GAZZUMZITTZ.

I agree that many boxes should have digital in/outs but, then, there wouldn't be so many choices; or, the world would be very smooth for we who record and the manufacturers want to keep us guessing....just check out the faGGOZZLING manuals they keep putting out.

You don't neccisarily need digital outs to record to cd. I record to my puter all the time without digital outs.
What type of CD burner are you using? Is it computer based, rack mount?
What soundcard do you have?

Let me know and I might be able to help.

Cool

I am guessing that the reason happy hour wants digital out is so the precious audio does not have to go through an unnecessary D/A and A/D conversion. If that is the case I would say look at this 8 track by Tascam.
http://www.tascam.com/products/porta788/

I think it is a little cheaper then the MD8, and it has 24 bit converters, effects, and digital in/out
