Take-off

Me and a few friends of mine want to begin recording. I need to know the means of recording turntables, drums, guitar (electric), vocals, etc. I don't know much about recording, so I need as much help as possible. I have no means to begin recording, but money isn't too much of a problem (unless it's a large amount). What equipment must I purchase? By what means do I record music optimally. How can I integrate a large arsenal of effects. I think I'll go digital, but what programs are the best to use? Finally, how does recording digitally work? I don't know a thing, so specificity helps. If anyone could help, it would be much appreciated.
