Closet Studio Wall Color?
Hey all,
Since I couldn't figure out how to create a poll I will just make a post and aske here. In my soon to be home studio closet, I am going to paint the walls before putting in counters / equip / etc. I know that different colors have certain moods/feelings associated with them such as bright colors being more stimulating and possibly giving happier feelings. Where cool or dark colors sometimes give off sad feelings, etc. I will be recording (singing and playing guitar) and writing in this room. Any suggestions on a good color that might stimulate my mind as well as help me sing some good tunes? Obvioulsy this is a more opinionated question, but would love some feedback! Thanks! |

In a really small space, you want to avoid dark and even medium tones, because they will make the walls seem to close in. I would look for a warm taupe that you like, or a cool taupe with a warm accent wall, such as a rust.
Lighting is critical as well for setting the right mood. Incandescent lights on dimmers (watch for hum though) give off a very warm spectrum, add some halogen spots for areas that need more light. |

Black. Make all your walls black, and then get a nice black light.

LOL, very funny.
No thanks I am not interested in a coffin room. I think after reading some other posts and some design sites, I am leaning towards a darker red (burgandy-ish) or even a purple. Any other thoughts? |

I actually went burgundy, beige and pumkin-ish. Works great (better than it sounds). The colours were put together by an interior designer friend.

I went with dark red walls and grey ceiling. Works for me. (see pic).

Actually, take rpe's avatar, with much less saturated colors, and you're there. |

dark khaki/gold walls, and all my panels and rugs are deep chinese red. Once the lights go dim it is amazing.

I've been puzzling over the same thing as you.
I'm doing drywall at the moment. I have a main room for rehearsing and mixing, and small isolation/vocal room, and a closet to paint. I have no idea at all. Someone mentioned all black above. I had a photographer friend who lived in his photography studio. He painted it all flat black for the ideal neutral lighting needed for set shooting. It actually had a calming effect, and it felt very industrial and like a work space/factory. it was cool, in other words. I have a feeling my wife would kill me though. Also, very dark colors don't always make you feel closed in. I painted a small powder room in our house very deep dark purple. It made the space feel calm and very open, like you are sitting alone in a dark night. |
