I found some acoustic material from my home street going to waste,
they originate from the ceiling and are some 1.5 centimeters thick ( other measures standard )but the material is similiar to 703 or what ever, so my plan is to do elements with these by satcking them together. But as they are coverd from one side I plan to make the elements by putting one of these with uncoverd side out and then leaving space of this 1.5 cm. and then having 2 of these married and then space and then one and then wrap all this to some nice canvas covering. As You can see the spacing comes from the material and my plan is to not use any extra material exept this canvas or similiar. These would be free standing units for multipurpose uses. Would this make them work on a broader spectrum of absorption as they have this covering on one side? I´m thinking of making these "sheets" resonate between themselves...? Any hints come to mind? -and sorry for my English wich seems to be rusting:- Matti Sound Recordist Helsinki Finland |

Unless those ceiling panels are made out of fiberglass they probably won't be worth the effort. If you are going to spend the time to fabricate some gobos then you might as well use a better material.

They are fibreglass, sure.

If you are sure they are fiberglass then what you described will work. You might want to make some type of frame to make them easier to stand up.
