Modified acoustic treatment for recording amp
I've been doing a lot of reading on acoustic treatment for rooms. Like so many of us, I'm limited on what I can do to the room I'm in - so I was wondering...
If I'm recording my amp with a couple of mic's close up (57 and MD421), could I "trick" the room into sounding better if I put a piece of acoustic tile (say, 2.5 feet x 2.5 feet) about 2 feet in front of the amp?

How close are we talking? The room isn't as big of a deal when you've got a cardioid mic right up against a blaring speaker. As far as foam making a difference? Most of the sound will just pass right through it. It might keep some high frequency reflections from reaching the mic, but I doubt it would be noticable. You really need a gobo, or some other hard surface in conjunction with an absorbant matterial.
