noob here about mastering

wassup folks...got a question...my genre of music is hiphop/RnB...I'm a producer/artist and I'm very familiar with the latest equipments as far as making beats and recording them onto a computer based multi-trak like protools....i've been wanting to master and mix my own music just so i do everything i possibly want on the record....

My question is, how to connect a mixer or a mixboard? I'm planning on getting my own...maybe a 16 track mixer but i dont know how to set it up with a digital multitrak recorder....like protools or even a tascam multitrak....

this is how my song look on the multitrack..

1st TRACK: the whole beat

2nd TRACK: main vocal

3rd TRACK: the double of the main vocal

4th TRACK: another double

should I chop up the beat and seperate all the instruments...(drums to one channel, guitar on another, and bass on another, etc.)

or should i leave it the way it is (whole beat, main vocals, double, 3rd double)

how is that possible? cuz now shouldnt the mixer be hooked up to another recording device just so i can put it all back together...? how do u guys do it? thx...
