I can't recall if this stuff have beed pointed out in the past (especially in "this vs. that" threads
).... so, for what it's worth, if you have an hour or so to kill, swing over. I personally have found many points/views there VERY arguable and disagreeable, still a good reed for any concerned mind. here are the links: What Have They Done To My Art THE RECORDED SOUND SUCKS - WE'RE TRYING TO MAKE IT BETTER Walter Sear's Analog Rules |

hmmmmmm. Good question. I would not dare speak for the man trying to sort of conclude anything about why he worries. Maybe it's because of sadness and/or anger which grabs by the throat a person, who has dedicated his life to building a big beautiful ship and now is seeing it sinking. What disturbs me a bit is, that Mr. Sear (imho) seems to waste bullets when shooting at small independent non-profesional producers, who from his poin of view sure have no slightest chance to make anything good at all. Here's his "BRAIN SURGERY AT HOME" shtick So, well. The point is taken. However! I think it would be a good idea to also think about why! people do "brain surgery" in the basement? The answer may be: Because they've got sick and tired of ending up dead on the tabel at "Big National Brain Surgery Centers" and then receiving a Big Bill and then seeing all the Surgeons-Killers receiving Academy Awards. So, guys, who cut their own skulls in their own basements do not hurt anybody. If they suck - they suck on their own. Non-pros are not the ones who have been destroying "your art", Mr. Sear, - The Professionals were doing it, but different kind of "professionals". Here's your Enemy, Mr. Sear: (and I don't mean the Boys... I mean the fact that you can't avoid them): |

whats dr zees problem
This guy is annoying and preachy and bitchy but he tells the truth (the guy on the merc site). Music does suck these days. Anyone is an artist. I could go on for hours but ive basically said what this dude has said before here and i was flamed and shat on. Why dont you fuckers just learn how to write and play? Instead of just pretending that you already can play, and that you already can write. 98 percent of modern music sucks ass. It is incorrect musically, it is annoyingly cultural and not musical, and the production (in an attempt to fix things) is way overblown.
Heres why people dont get what music is. And listen close fuckers. Because i am talking about YOU. Lets say joe blow gets laid in high school while hes wearing his OZZY shirt and listening to OZZY every day. It makes him feel cool and gives him escape from the harshness of life. He learns to LOVE Ozzy and all the Ozzy sound or look alikes. Its HIS music. He grows up and gets married. Now he runs a home recording setup and he tries to emulate and relive those old passions. So that Ozzy can all the great pure feelings can live forever. Who will tell him he doesnt love it? But that doesnt mean its music. That doesnt mean jack shit. He has developed a positive association for something negative. (now please understand ozzy is just an example im not bashing any one kind of music or other) Fast forward to now. Here i am telling you that there is good and bad music and youre saying how could your music be bad when you love it and live it so much. Because you have a positive association with it that makes you feel good about your life be it rebellion or memory or whatever. But that doesnt make it good MUSIC. And hey its no crime to love something stupid. Go ahead. But at least realize that you are living in a some what fake reality based on your own associations culled from your own lifes experiences. Dont confuse your love for the good old days or your will to stay hip and be a creative person with correct use of the emotional elements inherent in the frequencies and beats. |
