hardware vs. soundcard

i have a yamaha mg/10 mixer and a 24 bit sound blaster audigy sound card. i plug my mic into the preamp on the mixer and then i connect my mixer to the sound card and record like that. i noticed that when people plug their mic into an interface preamp, the vocals sounds way better than the way i'm doingd it. would a interface preamp be better than a yamaha mg/10 mixer preamp and plugin it into the soundcard? does anyone know any information about this?

Ditch the soundblaster and get an audio card designed for recording. The M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 is a good starting card if you only need two inputs. The A/D (analog to digital) convertors in the Audiophile cards are of much higher quailty then the ones in your soundblaster. Better conversion = better sound.

is the mixer preamp good? or should i get a preamp like a presonus one. cause i feel that the mixer is not designed to use for only recording so maybe a designed preamp will work better. is the any difference in a mixer preamp and a preamp such as a presonus. does the m-audio soundcard produce the same quality as an interface or worse or better?
