YAMAHA DD50

ANYBODY USED THE YAMAHA DD50 ELECTRONIC DRUMSET,HOW IS IT FOR RECORDING?ANY MIDI?

Guess who? It's me again.

I have the Yamaha DD50. It's a cool box. It's very playable, and even comes with sticks, and 2 footswitch pedals (hi hat & kick). It has recording/programmability and programmed bass/keyboard sequences in it, (to play drums along with sequenced tracks, for practise). It has MIDI IN & OUT, and I assume it can be used to trigger other devices. (I don't use MIDI). It's sound is comparable to other drum machines with digitally sampled sounds, that is to say, it sounds ok, but a real drum kit sounds much better.

I just picked one of these up to tinker with, and I'm incredibly disapointed in the response. I guess I got spoiled by trying out a set of Vdrums. I tend to get rather fast, and the DD-50 can't handle it. I 'm just using the MIDI out, not the internal sound source (which seemd to have every limited voice polyphony)- And the only way I get any sort of reliable triggers, is by totall whomping the shit out of the pads -with the blunt end of the sticks.- This results in a dynamicless capture - but at least EVERY hit is triggered. The pedals are just plain silly, good for one off triggers, but not for anysort of fast bass action. I prefer to set up a large pad for the bass drum. It is a good value in the way of a midi input device. Just don't expect miracles _ if you've never played real drums, you might not even notice the problems that bother me.
