another question about the 688

When I began to record, after about 2 mins the tape machine just stop. How can this problem be resolved. It does not matter how many times i start it again it contiue to do it

I had a similar problem with my 488mkII; it was diagnosed as a broken control board. Unfortunately, it required finding another 488 to replace it. That may or may not be the same situation for you.

Has the tape mechanism been cleaned?

When the (main) capstan-drive belt slips, the rotational sensor misses a few pulses, and when that happens, the machine does an "automatic shutoff", as if it thinks it's reached the end of the tape.
