I don't have any $$$$

but I would really like to get my otari mx5050 8 track working better. I finally got the pinch roller repaired (terry did excellently, and turnaround time was FAST) And got some tape, and finally tested out each channel. Channels 4, 6,7,8 don't work! 4 6 and 7, I can can jiggle the switches, and they sometimes work, and I've deoxidized the contacts a billion times. And 8 just sounds like crap. It comes in so fuzzy and buzzy. What should I do? Should I try replacing the switches myself, or should I just have the whole machine serviced? Does anyone know how much it would proabibly cost? I've NEVER had a tech do anything for any of my equipment, so I have no idea what to expect when it comes to money. 50? 100? 300? Don't know. And how do I look up a tech in my area?

I'd think $300 (unfortunately) for a GOOD going over and getting your machine up to the best it can be..fixed, calibrated, new parts (as needed)...as a min. ...IF your tech is worth their mustard.

If you are just getting a couple of switches fixed, cold solder joints repaired,, etc.. could be MUCH less. Probably an hourly rate at an hour or two.

If it has channel cards or any kind of internal plugs, try cleaning them as well.
